Introduction to Sports Accidents
Accidents Whilst Playing or Watching Sport

The whole idea of most sports is to get some exercise and have some fun which normally involves running around with others and using sports equipment.  Rules of some games also allow tackles as they are contact sports, so we have to accept that from time to time someone will be injured and it will purely be an accident with no-one to blame.

However; if you have an accident and suffer an injury whilst playing or watching sport, which was someone else's fault, then you may be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim.

If you would like us to review the individual circumstances of your sport injury to let you know if we can help you with a claim for compensation on a cost-free basis contact us on 08000 224 224.

What Type of Sport Injuries can I claim for?
Sport Accidents we might be able to help you with

Obviously, there is some degree of risk with playing any type of sport and if your personal injury occurs after you have simply tripped or fallen for no reason, you would not be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim. You would also not be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim if your sport injury was caused as a result of a legal tackle from another player.

If; however, some of the equipment you were provided with to use was faulty or the playing surface was badly maintained and this caused your accident, then you would be able to make a personal injury compensation claim. You would also be entitled to make a claim as a spectator if the public viewing area was unsafe and caused your accident.

We have also been successful in obtaining sport injury compensation for people injured as result of illegal tackles.   For example in football and rugby, competitors may be liable to other competitors for the manner in which they play the game.

Football tackles can cause serious injury. Each participant owes the others a duty to take reasonable care in all circumstances.

You may be able to make a claim for compensation regardless of whether your sports injury happened:

    * at School, College or University
    * at Work
    * at Work as a member of the Armed Forces
    * on Private Property
    * on Council owned or Public Property

What should I do after my Sport Accident?
Action to take following a Sports Injury

To make a successful personal injury compensation claim, you would need to prove that another person was responsible for your personal injury.

To help your case, you should report the sport accident to any staff around at the time, make a note of your accident in the accident book if possible, take names and addresses of witnesses to the accident and if possible take photographs of the area where the sport accident happened.

If you are intending to claim expenses such as prescription costs and travelling expenses, remember to keep receipts as evidence.
